We are a free society with freedom to pick what we like without inflicting any emotional, moral and physical injury on anyone because of our actions. This view was strongly put forward by John Barrowman who has been permanent part of Doctor Who since its season 9 and is playing the character of Captain Jack Harness. John Barrowman, an open gay himself seemed taken aback after Michael Nazir-Ali, the Bishop of Rochester in the U.K., urged gays to “repent and be changed”. He seemed perturbed after breakout of this statement by a famous public personality. He lashed back with harsh words against this outdated thinking by declaring that any high-ranking church official who agrees with this narrow-minded viewpoint is infact-damaging Christianity itself.

This actor on Doctor Who TV show vent out his outrage by saying, “From a gay man, weren’t the actions of Jesus Christ supposed to be about compassion and love and understanding? And here you have a man who is supposed to be teaching that and he is teaching bigotry. I think more gay men would go to church if the teachers were not as bigoted as they are. Now, I’m not saying all Christians believe like that, because there’s a lot out there who don’t.”

John Barrowman could not stop himself as he further said, “But these kind of men and women who are preaching that, they are going to lose their congregation because mums and dads are going to realize they have gay siblings - or children or family members who are gay - and they are not evil. Stop talking rubbish.”

I would be great that all of us become bold like this actor of Doctor Who TV show and openly criticize any act or statement that is against the norms of a modern and free society. John Barrowman must be backed by unprecedented support by huge fan following of Doctor Who television series. Unity is strength and when millions of voices combine to promote a great cause, petty and negative viewpoints are burdened and erased by the mounting pressure.
